At this event we focused on about a half mile of trail work, focusing on reducing hazardous fuel loads (dead chapparal material that burns hot and fast) in a serious endangered species habitat, removing dead chaparral plants (mount diablo manzanita (endangered endemic) ocntra costa manzantia, chapparal pea, ceanothus, chamise and knobcone pines) in an area that can be highly utilized recreationally, but also is home to many endangered species animals like California tiger salamanders, golden eagles and alameda whipsnakes, and other endemic plants and animals that make up the diverse and robust biological diversity of the mountain. This particular project focused on protecting trail access by utilizing volunteers from these amazing climbing organizations to give back to areas that they love and help protect the environment as well as help the park staff achieve the management goals necessary to prepare for further management practices like prescribed burns.

The presenting partners for the Mt. Diablo Facelift are Touchstone Climbing, Bay Area Climbing Coalition, Mt. Diablo State Park, and Save Mt. Diablo. The YCA knows that partnering with these four incredible organizations and teams will result in an extremely successful Facelift event!
